The first event, for 21-35 year olds, will occur on April 12th @ 7:30 PM at The Cornerstone Coffeehouse, next to Moe and Johnnys, located at 5380 North College Avenue. On Monday, April 26 @ 7:30 PM, LuLu's Electric Cafe (1460 West 86th Street), will host an event targeted at 35-49 year olds and Thursday, April 29 @ 7:15 PM, The Vapour Lounge (5252 East 82nd Street), will have an event for ages 21-29 and 25-35!
Tom Jaffee, founder of 8minuteDating said, We hold our events in popular restaurants and clubs, so its not only a stress free way to meet new people, but its also a fun night out. We always provide appetizers, and at some events we have entertainment, such as live jazz, wine tasting, or professional comedians. But bottom line, people are really energized by meeting each other in an environment where its easy to actually talk and get to know someone.
The tag line for 8minuteDating is 8 First Dates 1 Fun Night! Heres how it works: Men and women are paired off for 8 one-on-one conversations. After 8 minutes, the host rings a bell, and the participants discreetly note on their dating card whether or not theyre interested in another date with that person.
In the middle of the evening, theres a 20-minute intermission. Guests can talk further with some of the people they have already met or they can approach that certain someone they may have had their eye on but havent gotten the opportunity to meet yet. This is also a good time to write down the names of people theyre interested in meeting. Weve seen that even shy people are having an easy time meeting lots of new people at our events, Jaffee said.
After the intermission, each participant has four more 8-minute dates. After the eighth date, the organized part is over but the evening is not. At this point everyone can mingle, make new friends and also enjoy a cash bar and complimentary appetizers.
